AHMEDABAD: After ‘Rang De Basanti’, the BJP is now hell-bent upon not allowing the release of Aamir-Kajol starrer — ‘Fanaa’ — in Gujarat,

apparently because of the actor’s anti-Narmada dam remarks.

The Cinematograph Exhibitors Association of Gujarat has decided not to show any film starring Aamir Khan in the state till he tenders an apology for his recent anti-Narmada project statements.

If this has anything to do with Khan’s comments on the government’s handling of the Vadodara riots, the BJP is not saying it.

According to a statement issued by association president Harish C Patel, no film starring the actor, including ‘Fanaa’, would be screened in any of the cinema halls across the state.

BJP Yuva Morcha national general secretary Amit Thaker said multiplexes and cinema halls had already announced the same. Thaker told TOI, “We found Aamir’s comments on Narmada very prejudiced and insensitive.”

Asked if their ire was directed against Aamir’s remarks on the Vadodara riots, Thaker said, “Aamir should realise he is a reel hero and not a real one, so he should not be commenting on sensitive issues.

But the ban on ‘Fanaa’ is also because of his stand on Narmada.”Thaker demanded a public apology from Khan and said that only then would the movie be screened.

The Multiplex Association of Gujarat has also endorsed the ban. “We will not screen the movie as it would be morally wrong. Khan has offended the feelings of Gujarat‘s people and it would be improper to release his movie,”said association president Manubhai Patel.
